This weekend Our Man In Cologne, Archie Rhind-Tutt caught up with Klaus Allofs, sporting director of Wolfsburg. He had some very interesting things to say about Manchester City target Kevin de Bruyne…
Archie: Do you think the De Bruyne situation is having an effect on the rest of the team?
Klaus: It not getting out of control in our club and that’s the most important thing. There is speculation, of course, but this is football business. It’s like that. Maybe we are not able to change that. Kevin can do much, much better, for sure. But last season, when nobody was thinking about any transfers, he had some games where played not so well too. So, I’m very happy for getting very soon to August 31, when everything’s over.
Archie: Can I ask what is the latest from Kevin De Bruyne? Has there been an offer from Man City?
Klaus: No changes and we don’t give any comments if there is a proposal or not, but no changes. And as I said last week, I was asked on Thursday: will he be in the team or will he be with the team in Cologne? I said: For sure, he is. And he was. So, for the moment I’m pretty sure he’ll be in the team on Friday against Schalke.
Archie: You say the club is not being affected by all this speculation but in 91st minute, Kevin De Bruyne runs through on goal – maybe last season, given the form he was in, you’d expect him to finish that – is he OK with all this stuff which is going on around him?
Klaus: He’s OK but he has to think about his situation, for sure. And perhaps it’s also disturbing him. But in football, I know better than many people we had these kind of chances last season as well and he missed them as well.
