There’s been little complaint from Walter Mazzarri in what has been a difficult opening fixture list which sees Watford play their fifth straight game against a top-half finisher from last term. They’ve had road games against Southampton and West Ham and they now host Man United having already welcomed Chelsea and Arsenal.
It was at the Olympic Stadium last week that The Hornets secured their first win of the season after coming back from a two-goal deficit. They’ll look to use that momentum going into this clash, especially as they’ve struggled against the top teams in the past. Last term they lost 11 of 12 winless matches against the top-six, with a W0-D1-L5 record at home despite finding the net in half of these. Moreover, they’ve already lost to Chelsea and Arsenal at Vicarage Road this campaign and both defeats came despite scoring.
Since 2014/15 United hold a modest W8-D8-L6 record away to bottom-half clubs but their new look squad under Jose Mourinho have already proven this term they have what it takes to get the job done against teams expected to finish in the bottom-half with victories at Bournemouth and Hull.
They’ll have to deal with the quick turnaround following their disappointing defeat in Feyenoord on Thursday night but with eight changes made the starting line-up for this clash should be relatively fresh. The Red Devils ought to have the quality to prevail here but both sides have scored in eight of Watford’s last nine matches, so we’re backing United to win and both teams to score.
