Bayer Leverkusen vs Tottenham Hotspur

7.45pm – 18.10.16

Leverkusen have picked up two points from their opening two games, but have twice let leads slip as they were 2-0 up at home to CSKA on matchday one and then conceded in the 90th minute at Monaco. After a disappointing defeat at Wembley against Monaco, Spurs have responded by winning five of their next six in all competitions, including a 1-0 win at CSKA as they’ve conceded just two goals in these six games.

Leverkusen have a W6-D3-L3 record at home in the Champions League since 2013/14 in games that have tended to produce goals as they managed just three clean sheets, with seven seeing more than three goals. Monaco are the only side to beat them at the Bay Arena since 2014/15, despite the fact that they’ve played Barcelona and Atletico, who they beat 1-0, in that time.

Spurs’ win in Moscow was only their third in 10 European away games under Mauricio Pochettino, but the majority of those were of course in the Europa League where the Argentine tended to rotate his side. In the league, Spurs have lost just three times on the road since the start of last season but when travelling to top-five sides they’re just W1-D3-L4 as they failed to keep a clean sheet in any of these games. That, together with Leverkusen’s poor defensive record at home in Europe means that we expect both teams to find the net and with Leverkusen in good order at the Bay Arena having beaten Dortmund there prior to the international break, we’re backing a home win and both teams to score.

Recommendation: Leverkusen Win & BTTS at 4.00
