Hi all,
They say a week is a long time in football and it has certainly been a long month already for Man City after they suffered three defeats in a row, to Liverpool twice in the Champions League and rivals Man United to deny their Premier League crown.
It’s been a season of Pep Guardiola-loving, and rightly so in many cases because they have smashed the Premier League, but they’ve shown they’re not quite as good as people think in the past three games.
On Saturday evening, City face a Spurs team who will fancy themselves to beat anyone. Could it be four losses on the bounce for Pep?
Team News
Danny Rose (calf) and Kyle Walker-Peters (hamstring) are out of the game, and Harry Winks will also miss out. He’s in Qatar having rehab on his injured ankle.
For City, John Stones (adductor muscle) could make a return after sitting out the Manchester derby and the latest Liverpool game.
But Benjamin Mendy (knee) is expected to miss out.
Betting Focus
These top six clashes are always tricky to call but this one is particularly tough given that it’s hard to know if Pep will be able to get a reaction from his team, or if they are so shell-shocked about recent events they’ll fall to another defeat against a strong Spurs side.
One thing he’ll be drumming into his players is that they make sure they don’t get beat, because four losses in a row is embarrassing for any side.
But they put a lot into that Liverpool game in midweek and I don’t think Spurs will roll over and let them get back to winning ways, so I’m going to plump for Spurs Draw No Bet at Evens.
With Harry Kane back and scoring, and claiming whatever he can get his hands on, it will be a tough game to try to bounce back in.
I was even tempted to go for Spurs in a straight win at around 7/4, but it’s nice to have a saver of our money back if it’s a draw.
It’s not often Kane is as big as 4/1 to score the first goal of a Spurs home game so I’m going to get involved in that.
City have shown they’re still not brilliant at the back against top sides so there’s every chance he will net first.
I also fancy splitting the stakes and having a punt on Christian Eriksen FGS each-way at a big 10/1.
Bet365 offer unlimited places at a third of the odds, giving us our place money on just under 7/2 that he nets anytime.
