There’s no love lost when Chelsea meet Tottenham, as we saw in the infamous Battle of the Bridge back in May 2016, and both teams will be egg-tremely keen to grab all three points on Easter weekend.
While Chelsea have home advantage for this one, they haven’t exactly been egg-cellent in 2018, but with Spurs‘ main man Harry Kane doubtful for the away side it could be a tough ask for the north Londoners.
Just five points separate the two sides with Spurs in fourth and Chelsea in fifth, and this is a game the Blues cannot afford to lose if they harbour any Champions League qualification dreams, so they will have to go all out.
Team News
They do have a few injury concerns though. David Luiz is out for at least another three weeks with a knee issue, and Gary Cahill could come into the defence if Andreas Christensen, who is a doubt, doesn’t line up against Spurs.
Thibaut Courtois is also a doubt and Ross Barkley will play for the Development Squad as he continues to recover from injury, but Ethan Ampadu will miss the rest of the season.
Spurs have ankle injuries to both Harrys, Kane and Winks, but manager Mauricio Pochettino has admitted the England striker could potentially play a part in the Sunday afternoon match.
Toby Alderweireld is also hoping to be involved.
Betting Focus
Spurs haven’t won at the Bridge in the Premier League and with Kane probably out, or at least surely not starting, their chances have been significantly lessened.
However, Chelsea aren’t what they were last season and if Courtois and Christensen don’t make it they will be big losses – I don’t trust Willy Caballero in goal – so I’m favouring the draw at 23/10.
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte was talking up Alvaro Morata in the pre-match press conference, saying the Spanish striker is “really fit and is ready to have an important end to the season for Chelsea”.
This makes it sound like the Italian is going to put some faith in his inconsistent forward following his goal in the FA Cup quarter-final, so his 11/2 FGS price looks quite big to me.
