Liverpool v Tottenham Betting Tips: The Set Odds’ Big Match Preview

Liverpool and Spurs both prepared for this Sunday afternoon game with midweek wins to nil.

The Reds aren’t known for their tight defence away from home but kept a clean sheet in their comfortable 3-0 victory at Huddersfield on Tuesday night, while, more impressively, Tottenham saw off Man United 2-0 on Wednesday at Wembley.

Liverpool got the better of Spurs twice at Anfield last season, in the Premier League and the League Cup, but Mauricio Pochettino’s men put their Wembley hoodoo to bed with a 4-1 thrashing of Jurgen Klopp’s side in October. I’m expecting goals in this meeting, too!

Team News

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is expected to start after making his return against Huddersfield after four weeks out injured, and Virgil van Dijk will also be hoping for a recall after he was benched in midweek.

For Spurs, new £25 million man Lucas Moura could make his debut after signing from PSG on Deadline Day.

Danny Rose and Erik Lamela returned to the bench in the United game and Toby Alderweireld could make the squad, but Serge Aurier and Harry Winks are both expected to miss out.

Betting Focus

We saw what Liverpool can do at Anfield when they became the first Premier League team to beat Man City this season, so it’s really hard to back against them at home.

Spurs are by no means slouches though, so I’m going to sit on the fence for this one and back the draw at a fairly attractive 14/5.

This game is a tough one to pick out the first scorer in because both sides have such great attacking options.

But it’s rare to see Harry Kane at 9/2 to score first in a game and I’m not going to pass up the opportunity to back him – he’s as short as 3/1 with some other bookies.

I’m going to split the stakes on the FGS bet though because I also like the look of James Milner at 18/1.

He returned to the Liverpool side in midweek so could well start again on Sunday, plus he takes the pens. Backing him each-way gives us unlimited places at a third of the odds at Bet365, so we’re effectively getting him at 6s anytime, too.
