This derby has seen a changing of the guard in recent years as Tottenham have overtaken Arsenal as North London’s best team – but they don’t have the greatest record in this match away from home.
Spurs have won just twice in their last 32 League visits to Arsenal, and while Mauricio Pochettino’s men are a much stronger force these days, this is going to be a tricky game.
Team News
Arsenal could see Shkodran Mustafi and Danny Welbeck both return, which would be a real boost, and Alexandre Lacazette should be recalled to the first XI.
Santi Cazorla is still a long-term injury doubt, and it’s not thought Jack Wilshere will make his first Premier League start of the season.
Spurs are hoping Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Harry Winks will be back in action after missing England’s friendlies against Germany and Brazil.
Hugo Lloris and Toby Alderweireld are also doubtful, and longer-term absentees Victor Wanyama and Erik Lamela aren’t likely to return.
But the medical bench isn’t quite as jam-packed as it could be as Mousa Dembele and Jan Vertonghen should be fit.
Betting Focus
On paper, Spurs are better than Arsene Wenger’s side these days but the Gunners haven’t slipped up at home in the League this season, winning all five of their fixtures.
With Spurs’ injury problems I’m tempted to side with Arsenal at odds-against but it is hard to write off Tottenham with the likes of Denmark’s hat-trick hero Christian Eriksen among their ranks.
Talking of the Dane, I fancy him to net first at 9/1 each-way, with five places at a third of the odds, although there is a risk he could be in need of a sleep after his midweek exploits.
In terms of the bigger picture, I’m going to go for a draw single but hedge my bets and plump for the 11/2 on draw at HT, Arsenal win at FT, too. That looks slightly over-priced to me.
