Tottenham v Liverpool: The Set Odds’ Big Match Preview & Betting Tips

Tottenham and Liverpool both excelled themselves in the Champions League this week against very different teams.

Spurs went to Real Madrid and earned a well-deserved 1-1 draw – they could’ve even nicked all three points – while the Reds demolished Slovenian side Maribor 7-0.

But it’s back to the Premier League – check out my other top 10 tips on this weekend’s 4-4-2 System blog – at 4pm on Sunday as the pair face off in a mouth-watering Wembley clash.

Team News

Tottenham’s Danny Rose returned to action as a sub against Real on Tuesday night and Dele Alli will be back against Liverpool after completing his European suspension.

Ben Davies and Victor Wanyama both missed Spurs’ Spain stalemate, but it’s not known if they will return.

Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana and Nathaniel Clyne are still out for the away side with hamstring, thigh and back issues respectively.

But there are no suspensions for either team.

Betting Focus

While Jurgen Klopp‘s men played well in midweek, their defence is still vulnerable – quite why Man United barely tested this out last week only Jose Mourinho knows – and Spurs should be able to put their backline under pressure.

While Mauricio Pochettino‘s side broke their Wembley Premier League curse last week with a 1-0 win over Bournemouth, it wasn’t a completely convincing performance against a team who have lost all their away games this season.

That said, Spurs looked really solid at the back in Madrid and will make it tough for Liverpool’s exciting front three of Firmino, Coutinho and, sadly it doesn’t rhyme, Salah.

I’m tempted to go for a draw here as I’m not sure Spurs’ Wembley hoodoo is over, but with their tough defence, Harry Kane up front, and Liverpool’s leaky defence – 12 in eight conceded in the League – I’m plumping for a home win.

Christian Eriksen is in decent form for both club and country and 9/1 for him to net first looks decent. I’ll be backing it each-way at Bet365’s unlimited places.

If Liverpool are going to breach Spurs’ backline it could well be from a set piece so I like Philippe Coutinho at 8s to score from outside the box.

Good luck!
