Hello all.
It was a case of close but no cigar last weekend because sadly so many bets went down by just one goal or one leg.
Thursday night’s 11/2 5fold lost by just one goal (for the umpteenth time this season) as Holland failed to score in France.
It’s no secret Holland don’t have much of a Dutch of class about themselves these days but France, surprisingly, concede a fair few so it seemed a decent odds-against bet to bump up the 5fold.
I was kicking myself though because I was initially going to choose a France win so was left feeling Les Bleus instead of celebrating with them.
Brazil and Leyton Orient both did their parts of the Handicap Treble well but we lost out by one goal no thanks to Germany, who could only manage a 2-1 win in the Czech Republic.
The Win 5fold went down by just one leg as the usually impressive Poland couldn’t win or draw in Denmark. They were soundly beaten 4-0.
Isco’s two first half thunderbolts for Spain against Italy denied us the Half-time Treble by two goals as Spain went in 2-0 up at the break.
Exeter and Newport, and Wales and Austria had played out stalemates in the first 45 minutes of their games to seal two of the three legs.
The 263/1 10fold went down by just three selections, two 0-0 draws and Poland failing to get a draw or win in Denmark, last weekend, too. So we were not that far away from more than a grand from a fiver.
All last weekend’s near misses are a bit of a microcosm for this season so far. The rub of the green MUST be coming soon.
In better news, my 16/1 ante-post League One top scorer tip Charlie Wyke grabbed a hat-trick for Bradford.
My 6/1 League One promotion tips Charlton were victorious again to continue their impressive start with 12 points from a possible 15.
And my League Two promotion fancies Stevenage – tipped at 6/1 to go up – also won, and they now sit in second with 11 points from their first five games.
And in even better news, at least I’m not Wayne Rooney!
Talking of Rooney, he gave us plenty of joy the week before last when I tipped him as FGS at 12/1, and he duly obliged.
Plus, I’ve had 11/1, 9/1, 7/1, 3/1 and 4/5 recent winners tipped on The Set Odds Twitter so it hasn’t been all bad.
And with that, I’m hoping to end the international games on a high with my Monday/Tuesday selections.
Despite them letting me down for a Handicap Treble last weekend, I’m keeping faith with Germany to defeat Norway by a few goals at home.
Scotland had an impressive win last time out at Lithuania so they should be able to notch a few against a Malta side who made it tricky for boring England.
That said, the Three Lions usually get the job done at Wembley so should outdo Slovakia.
Austria and Italy should be able to overcome Georgia and Israel at home respectively, and then it’s all about the luck of the Irish as they take on Serbia.
6fold
Germany -1, Scotland -1, England win (all Monday), Austria, Italy, Republic of Ireland or Draw (all Tuedsay)
