Hello all,
We’ve waited patiently this summer for football to return, but our weekends are about to be filled again – and hopefully our wallets will be, too.
This is the first instalment of my 4-4-2 Betting System blogging series this season, and I’m aiming to win £46,000 over the course of the campaign. I’ll be wagering on 10 markets each week in a bid to achieve that goal.
As you may have read in my introduction piece, I am using the points system, whereby 1pt = your standard stake, £1 or £5 or £10 or whatever, so everyone can play along.
One thing about the start of the season is that there’s no real form to go on, friendlies can only tell us so much, and there are usually plenty of new players trying to fit in at clubs.
But this also means the bookies don’t always know either, so there can be some good value around and it shows this weekend with plenty of EFL home teams odds-against to win games.
I’ll mainly be betting on Premier League and Football League teams in the series, but will also cover the big European competitions and some of the other European leagues might sneak into the tips, too.
One thing I won’t be doing is making short odds tips on here, there will be plenty of that over on The Set Odds Twitter account. But this blogging series is all about big odds accas. Granted, some will lose but when we win, we’ll win big!
As you’ll see in the markets below, one is called the Lucas Joao 4fold, named after the Sheffield Wednesday and Portugal player who nicked a last-minute winner at Brentford two seasons ago to seal me an acca win at over 12,000/1, hence my nickname.
One team in this weekend’s Football League action who stand out to me for value is Charlton Athletic, who are 11/8 to beat Bristol Rovers. Both have enjoyed decent pre-seasons, with the Addicks best result coming in a 6-1 thumping of Ipswich, and the home side have also recruited well over the summer.
There’s an early crunch match in the Championship when Fulham take on Norwich City but I fancy the Cottagers to shoot down the Canaries considering the impressive way they finished last season.
Elsewhere, my League Two title picks Luton Town face a Yeovil team I’ve tipped for relegation, and Bradford City, who were unlucky not to be promoted last season, take on new League One side Blackpool at home.
While I expect the Tangerines to be squashed at Valley Parade, I think their fellow League One newcomers Portsmouth should fare much better at home to Rochdale.
You’d expect Sheffield United to start well with it being their first game back in the Championship but Brentford like to score goals and should do well this season so I fancy them to nick a win in a high-scoring game.
You’ll often see me tipping up the Sky Bet Super Saturday treble boost as it’s usually great value and I’ve won loads on it over the past few seasons. I like it for this Saturday – Fulham, Bradford and Portsmouth to win at a huge 10/1 (bet HERE).
