Southampton were in complete control against Hull after an hour’s play last time out but a lack of urgency saw them concede a quick-fire double to condemn them to their second straight league defeat. It followed their first home defeat in nine when they were completely out-classed by Chelsea, so Claud Puel will be determined to see a reaction from his men.
An emphatic 6-1 victory over Watford saw Liverpool reach the summit of the Premier League table for the first time since May 2014. As Klopp found out last season, St Mary’s can be a tough place to visit as they let a two-goal lead slip to lose 3-2. Sadio Mane netted twice that day for the Saints but his summer move to Anfield has coincided with a massive improvement in Liverpool’s form and performances.
If anything Liverpool are playing to a higher level than the Chelsea side that triumphed here a few weeks ago but while the Saints were unable to create a clear-cut chance against a sturdy Blues defence, they should get opportunities to stick the ball in the back of the Liverpool net. It’s just one clean sheet for Klopp’s men this term and all eight of their victories this term have come despite conceding so again we’ll back a Liverpool win & both teams to score.
