Last week was the first time Mourinho has lost three consecutive games in a season since 2002, when he was Porto boss. On top of disorganised defence the ‘Special One’ has major problems in the centre of the park. The midfield lacks balance with Pogba and Fellaini sitting deep while Rooney charges around like a headless chicken to little effect. Frustratingly for United fans the problem could be solved by bringing in Michael Carrick, Morgan Schneiderlin or even Daley Blind to sit deep and free up Pogba, but it all depends on whether Mourinho has the courage to drop Rooney.
Leicester on the other hand, play with much more cohesion with everyone knowing their role. Key players should be fresh after making seven changes against Chelsea in the EFL Cup with the league and the Champions League the clear priority this term.
In their last trip to the north-west the Foxes were humbled by Liverpool, though they’ve put in much better performances since and United look far less threatening than their rivals at this moment in time. Including that result Leicester have gone W2-D3-L7 on their travels to top-six sides since their return to the top-flight, but a W2-D2-L2 record in Ranieri’s tenure. Goals have been a plenty with both sides netting in nine of these and half finishing with four or more strikes.
Previous to their derby defeat United had lost just two of 20 games at Old Trafford so it’s still a big ask for the Foxes to nick all three points here. Mourinho sides of the past used to shut out stronger opposition but with a defence that looked all at sea against Watford he may find this difficult. Instead with the likes of Zlatan and Rashford in their ranks he may decide to go toe-to-toe with Leicester, so we fancy a score draw.
