Arsenal v Manchester Utd
16:00 - 7/5/2017 - Emirates Stadium, North London
Arsenal’s top-four hopes were severely dashed with a flimsy performance in the North London derby, though with both Manchester clubs only managing draws they remain in the hunt, but must win here. Their form against the teams around them hasn’t been good enough, going W1-D3-L5 against the top-six despite last weekend being the only time they’ve failed to score. However, just one of these defeats was at the Emirates and that was on the opening day.
Marcus Rashford’s free-kick gave Man Utd control of their Europa semi-final tie with Celta Vigo as they continue to fight for Champions League football on two fronts. In the league, they’re just a point behind Man City in 4th where their unbeaten run now stretches to 25 games, though 12 of these have finished all-square. They’ve lost just two of eight against the current top-six, but unlike the Gunners, goals have been sparse in these games with six seeing fewer than three.
Keeping things tight in the big games has been a defining tactic of Jose Mourinho’s career, but on this occasion a draw doesn’t really help either side, so we’re not as confident of a usual ‘unders’ Mourinho special. The Special One does however have hold an enviable record over counter-part Arsene Wenger having not lost any of their 12 Premier League clashes (W5-D7). Arsenal have lost six of their last 11 in the league and that combined with United’s unbeaten streak means that we’ll back the visitors.
