Cologne goalkeeper Timo Horn has told The Set Pieces that he is set for talks about his future at the club.
The 22-year-old German Under-21 international is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the Bundesliga, with kicker magazine rating his performances above even Manuel Neuer this season.
Horn’s displays have seen him linked with a move to the Premier League in the summer, with reports in Germany from Sport Bild and Express stating that Liverpool are interested in signing him.
On Saturday, The Set Pieces asked Horn whether he will be at Cologne next season.
“We will see,” he said. “I have a long contract [until 2019] in Cologne and my heart is in Cologne. I think we will talk about it with the manager [Peter Stöger], Jörg Schmadtke and also the goalkeeper trainer and then we will see what comes next.”
Horn has a reported release clause of €9 million, which equates to just under £7 million. He has been a stand-out performer for his hometown club since making his debut back in 2012 at the age of 19.
The six-foot four-inch stopper has only missed four games for Cologne over the past four seasons, helping the club win promotion back to the Bundesliga in 2014.
“It’s a fantastic feeling,” said Horn on Saturday after Cologne beat Darmstadt 4-1 to secure their place in the division for next season and record their biggest home win of the campaign.
There was no clean sheet for Horn, though, after what he described as an unnecessary mistake from team-mate Filip Mladenovic.
Yet Horn was keen to praise the Cologne fans who he says have been sensational in the last few games.
What those same fans would like to hear even more is that their local hero is staying at the club beyond this season.
