West Ham v Swansea
15:00
Swansea couldn’t hold out for a famous home victory over Spurs midweek, and were sunk by three late goals to consign them to a third defeat in four winless games. This weekend they travel to the London Stadium to face a West Ham outfit that has lost five straight as part of a run of seven without a win. Despite scoring in four of these five recent defeats, Slaven Bilic’s men must be looking nervously over their shoulders – they are only five points clear of the drop zone.
The defining characteristic of both sides’ recent games has been their weak defence. West Ham have seen 11 of their last 12 go over 2.5 goals and seven of those 12 go over 3.5, and 16 of Swansea’s last 20 have seen three or more strikes. The hosts have failed to keep a clean sheet since mid-January, and the only team with a worse defensive record at home than West Ham is Swansea – conversely, the only team with a worse defensive record away than Swansea is Hull.
West Ham have been in the doldrums recently, but Swansea’s record of seven losses from their last nine away games means we are reluctant to dabble in the results markets. Instead, we’ll back over 2.5 goals – these two teams have struggled to keep opponents out, and we could be in for a high-scoring game.
