West Ham v Burnley
19.45 - 14/12/16 - London Stadium, East London
West Ham took advantage of Liverpool’s defensive slackness at Anfield on Sunday to hold them to a 2-2 draw, but the Burnley side they host this week are back to winning ways after beating Bournemouth at Turf Moor, and they could prove a handful. The move to the London Stadium has gone anything but smoothly for the hosts: they sit just a point clear of the relegation spots, and having not won in their last six league outings, they could do with a convincing performance against their visitors this week.
The key thing to note about West Ham’s disappointing recent form is that the opposition they have faced has been high-quality: their last five games in all competitions have been against Spurs, Man United (twice), Arsenal and Liverpool, and their next four games (against Burnley, Hull,Swansea and Leicester) should prove a reasonable opportunity to pick up slightly more points after losing momentum. The Burnley side they host has had a torrid time on the road this term, which should give the Hammers some confidence: Burnley have gone W0-D1-L5 this season on the road, and they’ve conceded at least two in every away match except the 0-0 draw at Man U, so players like Dimitri Payet and the high-flying Michail Antonio will be hoping to fill their boots.
Burnley have scored only once away from home this season, but West Ham are clear favourites, so backing them in the result market seems like poor value. However, we do like the look of them covering the -1 handicap at 2.7.
