West Brom v Liverpool
13.30 - 16/4/2017 - The Hawthorns, West Bromwich
Liverpool come into this fixture against West Brom unbeaten in six, overcoming a tricky Stoke City side at the Britannia last weekend after conceding for the seventh straight game (their last clean sheet came against Spurs at Anfield). West Brom suffered a frustrating 1-0 loss to Southampton, bringing them their second loss to nil in their last three at home. Their only win in their last six was against a sub-par Arsenal side, and with tough matches against Leicester, Chelsea and Man City coming up a good home result would be very welcome.
The big concern for West Brom will be their failure to score many in the league recently. The game against Arsenal saw them score their only goals since the end of February, and that was the only time they’ve picked up three points against a top-six side – prior to that, they’d lost six straight against top-six sides, going goalless in five of them. Bournemouth have twice taken points off Liverpool, but apart from them Liverpool have done well against middle-third sides, winning each of their last five against other middle-third sides and eight of their last nine against such teams, despite conceding in all but two of these. However, their win against Stoke was their first away win in five attempts, and defeats at Hull and Leicester in that stretch won’t fill the Reds with confidence.
It’s hard to pick this one, but we’ve noticed that Liverpool have struggled to win at The Hawthorns, drawing their last three there. Given their poor away form recently, we’ll back the draw once again.
