West Brom v Arsenal
12.30 - 18/3/2017 - The Hawthorns, West Bromwich
Arsenal swept aside minnows Lincoln City in the cup last weekend, but after heavy defeats by Liverpool and Bayern Munich in the two games prior to that, it remains to be seen whether they are a resurgent force against stronger teams. Their first match back after Premier League inaction is at the Hawthorns against a West Brom side that has now lost two straight games to nil. They’re more or less out of European contention with 10 games to go, but will be hopeful of repeating their win in this fixture last season.
Arsenal’s recent away losses against Liverpool and Chelsea will not have given fans travelling to the West Midlands this weekend much confidence, but the Gunners have been strong away against middle-third sides over the last two seasons. They’ve lost only one of their last eight such matches, with that loss coming to an Everton side who are excellent at home, and they will have noticed that West Brom have lost six straight against top-six sides, with four of those seeing them behind at the half and the five most recent being losses to nil.
Arsenal have conceded the second-most goals of any top-six side after Liverpool, so we can’t justify backing them to win to nil here. However, we’ve noticed that they’ve been level at the half in six of their last eight against middle-third sides, so we’ll back Draw/Arsenal Half Time/Full Time.
