Stoke v West Ham
15:00 - 29/5/2017 - Bet365, Stoke-on-Trent
The glimmer of life that a 3-1 win over Hull brought to Stoke was quickly snuffed out last weekend, as the Potters lost 2-0 at the Liberty Stadium to make it five losses in six away games without a goal or a victory. It was also their fifth defeat in six across all venues and this weekend they host West Ham, who held Everton to a goalless draw at the London Stadium in defiance of both teams’ tendencies towards goal-filled matches. The Hammers are just a point behind Stoke, who need to pick up some points to ensure a trouble-free end to their campaign.
West Ham have bounced back from five straight defeats with three unbeaten games, but they remain winless in five on their travels. During this time they’ve conceded at least twice in each of the last four, and six of their last seven have featured at least three goals (four in this time have seen at least four). After failing to win each of their last four against middle-third sides, during which time they’ve drawn three times, it’s hard to back the Hammers here. That said, Stoke have been involved in some high-scoring games at home recently: each of their last three at home have seen at least three scored, and they’ve netted in nine consecutive games at home. As such, we think we’ll see a few chances in this one.
Neither side has a particularly convincing record coming into this one, but we do think that it is a match that could see plenty of goals. Over 2.5 is a decent bet at just odds-on.
