Southampton v West Brom
15:00
Saints suffered only their third home defeat in their last 19 at St Mary’s as they were beaten 4-1 by Spurs, conceding four at home for the first time since returning to the Premier League. They were largely undone by a red card shown to Nathan Redmond and in his absence Saints will surely continue to struggle for goals as they’ve failed to score more than once in all but one of their home games so far. The Baggies, meanwhile, had their resistance ended by a late Olivier Giroud winner at the Emirates on Boxing Day, condemning them to their third defeat in four games.
Saints have in fact managed just three goals in their last five at home and despite the fact that they’re generally tough to beat on their own patch, they look a little on the short side at 1.73 to pick up all three points. Indeed, Puel’s men have managed only three wins in their last 10 at home or away and as such we’re certainly going to take them on at those prices.
While the Baggies have lost three of their last four, each of those defeats came against current top-six sides and prior to that they’d won three of four unbeaten games and were up in 8th. Like Saints, they’ve struggled for goals recently and they’ve in fact scored more than once in just one of their last 14 on the road. As such, we expect a low-scoring encounter which will certainly bring the draw into play, with the 0-0 correct score worth a punt at 8.0.
