Jay Rodriguez’s brace inspired the Saints to a 3-1 win over Bournemouth at Vitality Park in the South Coast Derby last weekend, but they’re back at home on Wednesday to face Spurs. Spurs had to come from behind against Burnley to secure a controversial win: Moussa Sissoko was lucky not to be sent off immediately prior to the goal. The visitors lost at home to

Southampton when these two sides met in May, and a repeat at St Mary’s could leave Saints within three points of the top six.

Southampton haven’t had a great start at home against top-six sides this season: they are yet to get off the scoresheet against such sides after a 0-2 loss to Chelsea and a goalless draw with Liverpool, which is at odds with their successful games at home against Man City, West Ham and Arsenal at the end of last season. By contrast, Tottenham are undefeated in their last 13 away games against middle-third sides, although seven of those results have been draws. Across both home and away matches against such teams as these, Spurs have won just one of their last eight, and Southampton were the last middle-third team to beat them. As such, Tottenham will be wary of the threat that Southampton pose.

This is a tricky one to call, as each team could easily snatch a winner and then park the bus for the remainder of the game. We like Southampton’s chances at home, though, so we’ll back them on the Draw No Bet.

Best bet: Southampton Draw No Bet at 1.95
