Middlesbrough v Swansea

15:00 - 17/12/16 - Riverside Stadium, Middlesborough

Middlesbrough were torn apart in front of their own fans by Adam Lallana and Divock Origi, and will hope to do much better against a Swansea outfit that came home empty-handed from West Brom after a Salomon Rondon hat-trick. Although it is unlikely that Swansea will record the five-goal margin of victory over Middlesbrough necessary to lift themselves out of the drop zone and dump the hosts in it on goal difference, they do stand a chance of going level on points with Boro when the two sides meet this weekend.

Middlesbrough have the joint-worst home record in the league this season, going W2-D1-L5, and though Swansea have lost six of their last seven on the road since the opening day win at Burnley, we’re siding with the visitors here. They haven’t travelled to anyone lower than champions Leicester in 14th during that run, while they’ve lost only three of their seven trips to bottom-six sides since the start of last season.

Middlesbrough will need to shake off their heaviest home defeat since Chelsea beat them 5-0 in October 2008, and we think they’ll struggle to do so. Swansea have won their last three against Boro, and we think they could extend that run on Saturday.
