Middlesbrough v Liverpool
19.45 - 14/12/16 - Riverside Stadium, Middlesborough
Middlesbrough’s away game against Southampton saw them go down 1-0 following a spectacular Sofiane Boufal strike, and this week they welcome Liverpool to the Riverside. Liverpool will have been frustrated by
their inability to shut out West Ham at Anfield at the weekend, and their record of 20 goals conceded in 15 league games (the worst record of any team in the top six) will be a cause for concern going into this fixture against a team flirting with the relegation zone.
Middlesbrough’s tally of 13 goals from 15 games is the worst in the Premier League, but Liverpool have kept only one clean sheet in their last 10 away fixtures, so even in the absence of top goalscorers Alvaro Negredo and Gaston Ramirez (both out injured), Middlesbrough can reasonably expect to expose Liverpool’s inconsistency in defence. That being said, Liverpool have scored 19 goals in their last seven in all competitions, so it would be a shock to see them fail to get on the scoresheet.
Neither side has been particularly consistent in terms of results, but both sides should have opportunities to score. With that in mind, we think over 2.5 goals is a good bet.
