Manchester City v Watford

20.00 - 14/12/16 - Etihad Stadium, Manchester

Man City were unable to cope with the rapier-sharp Jamie Vardy at the King Power at the weekend and paid the price, losing 4-2. Watford successfully handled the challenge of Everton, and they will hope that the win marks the end of the inconsistency that has plagued them since the early weeks of the season. The visitors unexpectedly find themselves only three places behind City in the standings, and may fancy their chances against a team that is now winless in its last three across all competitions.

The major issue for Man City remains the suspension of key players Sergio Aguero and Fernandinho – Iheanacho proved ineffective against Leicester, but is likely to get the start again. They can take some confidence from the fact that Watford have lost seven on the trot on the road against top-six sides, but having just lost back-to-back league games for the first time since Pep Guardiola arrived over the summer (and with Guardiola conceding four in a league game for only the third time), the hosts will be desperate for a good result in this midweek game. Watford have conceded 13 in their last five league games, so even with Aguero and Fernandinho unavailable, Man City could be amongst the goals.

While we’re reluctant to call this match either way, the high-scoring nature of the recent games these two have played makes the goals market worth a look. Evens looks like a reasonable price for Over 3.5.
