Liverpool v Tottenham

17.30 - 11/2/2016 - Anfield, Liverpool

Liverpool’s dreadful start to 2017 continued last weekend as they were humiliated by Hull at the KCOM Stadium. The Spurs team they face next managed to grind out a 1-0 win against Boro, meaning that they have kept the gap between themselves and leaders Chelsea at nine points, and they’ll hope to take advantage of a Liverpool outfit that has won just one of its 10 games across all competitions this year.

The good news for Liverpool is that they’ve been strong recently against top-six sides. They’re unbeaten in their last six against top-six sides (winning two and drawing two this term), and their sole loss against such a side at home since the start of last season came against Man United last term, so history is on their side. This is especially true given that Spurs have won only once away against top-six opposition since the start of last season, drawing twice and losing twice this season. They’re undefeated in nine in the Premier League, so it would be a surprise to see them lose this, but with two draws in their last three in the league (and with both of those draws coming away) it’s unlikely that they’ll dominate the tie – the Draw at 3.3 looks tempting.

Regardless of which way this one goes, it’ll probably be a cagey encounter. Five of Spurs’s last eight away games against top-six sides have gone under 2.5, as have four of Liverpool’s last five at home against such opposition, so we’ll back ‘Unders’ here.
