Liverpool v Southampton Betting Tips

Liverpool were able to capitalise on favourable results in the race for the Champions League thanks to an Emre Can wonder goal at Watford. They’re now in the box seat to finish in the top-four as they welcome a Southampton side who in their last three have suffered heavy defeats to Chelsea and Man City to go with a goalless draw at home to Hull, resulting in speculation about Claude Puel’s future at the club.

Liverpool lost last time out at home to Palace, while their other home defeat this season came against Swansea. Jurgen Klopp’s men to tend to struggle against teams that sit back when visiting Anfield, but fortunately for them that’s a tactic Puel has rarely implemented this season. Versus the top-six the Saints have looked to play their usual brand of football, but it’s resulted in seven defeats from nine winless matches, though they did at least find the net in four of the five away games in this sequence.

The Reds have an impressive home record against top-half teams, winning five of eight unbeaten matches this term. They’ve netted at least twice in five of these, but have kept just three clean sheets. Both teams have scored in 13 of the last 17 encounters at Anfield, whilst Southampton have netted in each of their last six on the road. Given Puel’s terrible record against the top-six, we’ll side with a Liverpool win and both teams to score.
