Hull City v Liverpool
15:00 - 4/2/2017 - KC Stadium, Hull
Hull doggedly held Man Utd to a draw at Old Trafford on Wednesday, largely thanks to the heroic efforts of keeper Eldin Jakupovic, but they remain four points from safety and will struggle to contain a top-six side for the second time in a week. Liverpool secured a point at home against Chelsea, but will have been left wondering what could have been after Firmino squandered a late chance to put the hosts ahead, and they need three points here to resurrect some hope of a title challenge.
Hull have put in some strong performances at home to compensate for their dreadful away form. They’ve won each of their last three at the KCOM Stadium in all competitions, scoring at least twice in five of their last six there en route to a run that has seen them beaten just once in their last nine home games. That being said, they’ve not scored in their last six against top-half sides, conceding an average of 2.5 goals per game in that stretch despite going into the break level in half of these. Liverpool have drawn three of their last four top-flight outings, with the other result being their humiliating loss to Swansea, but they’ve not lost in four on the road and will be hopeful of turning things around this weekend after a patchy run of form.
Hull tend to be very solid in the opening period against top-six sides: they’ve gone in level at the break in six of their last nine such matches, and Liverpool have been level at half time in three of their last five against bottom-six sides. That said, Hull have gone on to lose all but one of their last six matches against top-six sides, so we’ll back Draw/Liverpool Half Time/Full Time.
