Hull City v Bournemouth

15:00 - 14/1/2017 - KCOM Stadium, Kingston-Upon-Hull

Hull started their 2017 league efforts with a dispiriting 3-1 loss to West Brom, and they will be hopeful of improving their league standing when they face Bournemouth this weekend. They will have been disappointed to concede twice in the second period against Man Utd midweek in the League Cup semi-final, but they will be buoyed by the fact that Bournemouth have conceded three in four of their last five in all competitions, the two most recent of which saw the Cherries throw away a 3-0 lead against Arsenal and succumb to Millwall in the FA Cup.

The main issue for Hull coming into this match will be confidence in their capacity to win. They have not won any of their last nine matches in the league, and they’ve failed to score in five of those nine matches. At home the news is slightly better: they’ve drawn three of their last four, and given that Bournemouth have lost three of their last four against bottom-six sides, Hull may feel that they will have opportunities to take points off the visitors, especially given that the Cherries have conceded in all of their games against such opposition this term. Furthermore, Bournemouth are yet to beat Hull at the KCOM Stadium, and it is hard to see them doing so when they’ve been so weak at the back lately.

With Elmohamady and Mbokani missing for Hull owing to African Cup of Nations commitments, it will be an uphill struggle for the hosts, but now that Chelsea have recalled Nathan Ake from Bournemouth we think the visitors will struggle to stop the goals coming in. On balance, Over 2.5 seems like a good bet with both these sides leaky at the back.
