Everton v Southampton
15:00
Southampton suffered the frustration of a second home defeat in four days when they lost to West Brom on Saturday at St. Mary’s, which will have compounded the misery of their defeat to Spurs earlier in the week. They now make the trip to Goodison Park to face Everton, who were held to a 2-2 draw away at Hull on Friday night, but will have enjoyed the extra day’s rest in the busy festive schedule.
Everton’s efforts against middle-third teams at home in recent times have been somewhat lacklustre: they’ve gone W3-D5-L2 over their last 10 against such opposition, and they’ve conceded in every one of those games. Furthermore, Southampton have scored in all but one of their away games against top-half sides, so they will feel fairly confident of getting on the scoresheet at the very least. All five of Everton’s draws have been 1-1, and one of those draws was in this fixture last term, so we would not put anyone off backing that scoreline again at 6.0.
