Everton v Manchester City
13.30 - 15/1/2017 - Goodison Park, Everton
Everton suffered a damaging 1-2 home loss in the cup to the Leicester side they’d beaten on Boxing Day, and they must now brace themselves for the arrival of Man City at Goodison Park in the lunchtime kick off on Sunday. Man City thrashed West Ham 5-0 in the cup last time out, and they appear to have rebounded well from the 1-0 defeat against Liverpool on New Year’s Eve. That was City’s only loss in their last six across all competition, but they lost their last game at Goodison Park last January and must pick up a win here to keep pace with Chelsea and the rest of the top six.
The major point of concern for Everton is that they’ve won just one of their last eight against top-six sides, with six of those games ending in defeat and four of those ending without a goal for the Toffees. They’ve gone into the half level in three of the four of those games that have come this season, and Man City have won only once in their last 10 away against top-half teams when level or down at the break, so if the hosts can hold City level through 45 minutes they may fancy their chances of picking up points.
That being said, City have lost to Everton only once in their last nine encounters and they haven’t lost to them in the league since early 2013, so the visitors will trust themselves to get the job done. Back the visitors at 1.83.
