Everton v Bournemouth
15:00 - 4/2/2017 - Goodison Park, Everton
Bournemouth will have been disappointed to go down 2-0 away at Crystal Palace, and they now face another tough away day as they seek to avoid a sixth defeat in seven road games across all competition at Everton on Saturday. Everton were held to a 1-1 draw at Stoke, but they’re unbeaten in their last five in the league, and their only home loss this season in the league came to Liverpool – they’ll be expecting a strong performance against the Cherries this weekend.
It’s misleading to examine Everton’s results in comparison to other top-half teams because there’s such a gulf between the top six and the next four, but when we look at Bournemouth’s results against teams between fifth and ninth, we can see that they’ve struggled, losing the last three despite scoring in each. By contrast, Everton have been strong against bottom-half sides at home, losing only once at Goodison Park in their last seven such matches and winning to nil on four occasions in that run. They’ve only been ahead at the break twice, though, and after losing away at Bournemouth earlier in the season they’ll be aware of the threat their visitors can pose.
Bournemouth have lost by two or more in four of their last six away days, and Everton have put seven unanswered goals past their last two visitors – they’re in great form at home. We back them to cover the -1 handicap.
