Crystal Palace v Sunderland
15:00 - 4/2/2017 - Selhurst Park, South London
These two teams had good results in the midweek fixture round, with Crystal Palace recording a fine away win over Bournemouth to break Big Sam’s league duck with the Eagles and Sunderland holding Tottenham to a goalless draw at the Stadium of Light. Crystal Palace are in 18th, three points clear of Sunderland, and they’ll be desperate for a home win to put some distance between themselves and the bottom two.
Palace’s problem lately has been holding teams at bay in tight home matches. They’ve lost the last four at home by one goal, although three of these were to top-seven sides (Man Utd, Chelsea and Everton), and although they’re winless in their last four against bottom-six sides, we’d expect them to outperform Sunderland at home. The Black Cats have lost eight of their last nine on the road in the league, and have a W0-D1-L3 record away against bottom-six sides. They’ve held out till half time in three of those, though, so it may well be a cagey opening period.
Crystal Palace have only been up at the half in one of their last eight at home against bottom-six sides, but seven of their last 10 league goals have come in the second half, and we think they’ll overwhelm Sunderland in the second period. Draw/Crystal Palace looks promising at 4.5.
