Barcelona v Sporting Gijón
15:00
Barcelona had Lionel Messi to thank once again as the Argentine netted a late winner at Atletico to keep the Catalans within a point of Real, who do still have a game in hand. Gijon managed a point against Celta Vigo so they remain in 18th, two points behind Deportivo, who also have a game in hand.
Barca have now won eight of 10 unbeaten games and have won their last four at the Nou Camp, scoring 14 goals in the process and leading at the break in each of those victories. However, their last two home victories against bottom-six teams have been by just one goal margins, in stark contrast to their previous five home victories over such opposition, which were all by more than three goals.
Gijon picked up their first away win of the season in their last road game at Leganes and while they were thumped 5-0 at Atletico early on in the season, since then they haven’t lost by more than one in any of their last 10 on the road since. That’s despite going to the likes of Real and Bilbao in that time and so we’re siding with them on the handicap against a Barca side that aren’t at their fluent best at the moment.
Recommendation: Gijon +3 Handicap at 2.4
