Atletico eased past Leverkusen in the last round and since then they’ve been in impressive form in La Liga, winning three of four unbeaten games, including a 3-1 victory over Sevilla and a 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu on the weekend. Leicester, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat under Craig Shakespeare as they went down 4-2 at Goodison Park, though they rested a couple of players for that one with this tie in mind.
Atletico have won 16 of their 21 Champions League home games since 2013/14 with only one defeat in that time, whilst they’ve remarkably kept 17 clean sheets in this period. Indeed, Bayern (twice), Barcelona (twice), Real Madrid, Juventus and Chelsea have all failed to score in trips to the Calderon, though Atleti haven’t been prolific themselves as they’ve only scored more than twice against Astana since the start of last season.
Leicester have managed only one goal in their last three Champions League away games and whilst those were before Shakespeare took over, they’ll nonetheless do well to breach the excellent Atletico defence. They’ve kept just one clean sheet in 15 Premier League trips to top-half sides since the start of last season and so we’re backing Atletico to win without conceding, as they have done so often at the Calderon under Simeone.
