Arsenal kept the pressure on Man City and Liverpool for the remaining Champions League spots with a 4-1 victory at Stoke. They must win this game in hand to stand any chance come the final weekend, but fortunately they face a despondent Sunderland side. The Black Cats were booed off in their final home game with a heartless display against Swansea and their travelling fans may choose to stay at home for the next week with a trip to champions Chelsea to follow this.
Arsenal have turned a corner since changing to three at the back, winning five of their six games, conceding in just two of these successes. At the Emirates, they’ve won nine of their last 11 with Man City the only visitors to score against them in the last five. Since the start of 2013/14 they’ve won 17 23 at home to bottom-six opposition, with 11 of these victories coming to nil.
Very few of these bottom-six sides the Gunners have faced would have been as poor as this Sunderland one. It’s 10 defeats from their last 12 where they’ve scored just four goals and with little spirit amongst the squad they again look unlikely to troubles the scorers against Wenger’s new defensive system. With Arsenal still chasing that top-four we expect them to put in a strong performance and so are backing the home win to nil.
