Tottenham v Everton
13.30 - 5/3/2017 - White Hart Lane, North London
A Harry Kane hat-trick was plenty for Spurs on Sunday as they tore Stoke apart 4-0, and while Chelsea are out of sight for the foreseeable future, Spurs need to take advantage of a moderately friendly run of fixtures to avoid being overhauled by City, who are just a point behind them in third. Everton come into this one undefeated in nine in the league, but they have not beaten Tottenham since 2012, so they will be braced for a tricky trip to White Hart Lane.
Everton are unbeaten in their last five on the road, but only two of these have produced victories for the Toffees (over Crystal Palace and Leicester), and their away record against top-six sides is weak - they’ve not won at any of the current top-six since 2013. Spurs have been excellent both home and away against middle-third sides as well, recording a 16-2 aggregate scoreline across their last four games against such oppposition and taking the lead before the halfway mark in the three most recent of those four victories. As such, this could be another one in which they take the lead early and dominate proceedings throughout.
Spurs start as strong favourites to end Everton’s unbeaten run, but five of the last six between these two have gone under 2.5 goals, so we’re reluctant to back Spurs on the handicap. However, their tendency to take the lead early against middle-third sides means we’re happy to back them in the HT/FT market.
