Liverpool v Arsenal
17.30 - 4/3/2017 - Anfield, Liverpool
Jurgen Klopp stated that everyone, himself included, was ‘playing for their future’ at Liverpool after they succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at Leicester, a game in which midfielders Lucas and James Milner started in defence while career defender Ragnar Klavan warmed the bench. With just two wins in their 12 matches so far in 2017, they will be eyeing the impending visit of Arsenal with unease.
Arsenal’s away form recently has been poor. They’ve won just one of their last five away league games, and they’ve lost to three sides placed seventh or higher in that stretch (Chelsea, Man City and Everton). Indeed, they’ve not won at a top-six side since winning at Leicester early on last season. They’ve conceded 18 goals in the last eight such games, and with Koscielny a doubt for this one we could see an ill-marshalled back line take a pounding here. Liverpool have conceded the most goals of any top-six side this season (33), and after conceding at least two in three of their last five across all competitions we think their defensive problems are also going to persist for this one.
Liverpool have been good against top-six sides this season, not losing to any of the top six to date, but their defence has looked woeful recently. Five of the last seven between these two sides have gone over 3.5 goals and we wouldn’t be surprised to see this one go over this margin as well.
