After finishing all the way up in 7th last term, Caen are struggling in 19th this time around after their 2-1 defeat at Monaco prior to the winter break. They have however shown some improvement in recent times, losing just three of their last seven during which time they managed a home win over league leaders Nice, while they’re only four points off Montpellier in 11th in what is a congested bottom half of the Ligue 1 table. Lyon are at the other end in 4th after their 2-0 win at home to Angers, their seventh win in eight.
While Caen have picked up only one point from their nine away games, they’ve been much better at home where they have a W5-D2-L2 record, with one of those defeats coming against PSG. When hosting top-six teams they’re W3-D2-L3 since the start of last term and since two of those defeats were against the Parisians, they’ll hope to pick up at least a point here.
Lyon were comfortable 0-4 winners in this fixture last term but they were aided by an early red card and prior to that they’d lost their last three visits to Caen. While Lyon were in excellent form in the run-up to the festive period, whether they can get straight back to that level after a break remains to be seen. At odds-on, we’re going to take them on, as Caen remains a tough place to go despite their struggles this season and so we’re backing the hosts to pick up at least a point.
