Bayern Munich v Werder Bremen
The Bundesliga season kicks off with the Champions hosting last season’s 13th, Bremen, as Bayern look for a fifth consecutive league title under new coach Carlo Ancelotti. Bremen have finished between 9th and 14th in the last six seasons and will be looking to break back into the top half this term in Viktor Skrypnyk’s third season in charge.
Bayern’s home record in the last couple of seasons is an imperious W29-D2-L3 as they led at the break in 22 of these games, kept 21 clean sheets, while 15 of their wins were by more than two goals. Over the same period, the Bavarians have won all 12 of their home matches against sides between 9th and 14th, leading at the break in nine times, whilst conceding just three goals as seven of their wins were by more than two goals.
Bremen had a W5-D3-L9 record on the road last term but they’ve lost 18 of their 20 trips to top-four sides since 2011/12 and they’ve also lost and failed to score in their last four games against Bayern at home and away, including 5-0 and 6-0 defeats in this fixture in the last two seasons. As a result, we’re backing Ancelotti to begin his reign with a resounding win here and a clean sheet, particularly since key forward Max Kruse is out for Bremen.
