It’s a moment that stays with a footballer for their entire lives. But sometimes when a player pulls on the England captain’s armband, it can almost go without mention.
Since David Beckham last captained England, there have been 22 Three Lions skippers. Or at least 22 players who have been lucky enough to wear the armband.
Among them are the recognised England captains who enjoy the status as well as the role, but there are also plenty who have taken over at the end of friendlies or qualifiers.
