What a mouth-watering New Year’s Eve fixture we have here as second-placed Liverpool host third-placed Man City. This game marks the halfway point of the season for both clubs and currently they are separated but just a single point. Given the only team to score more than City this term are Liverpool, goals scream out to be backed here though it’s worth noting that the South American duo of Coutinho and Aguero are both ruled out by injury and suspension respectively.
Liverpool have won four of the six games that Coutinho has missed through injury recently but they’ve perhaps been fortunate not to have faced any team in the current top-eight in that spell. Since he joined the club, Liverpool have won just two of their 10 games against top-six teams when the Brazilian has been absent as five games have had Over 3.5 Goals. Aguero’s missed seven games for City this season but they’ve still won five of the matches and scored at least twice in all-bar-one of the games including winning at Old Trafford and beating Arsenal.
Liverpool have failed to score just once at home this season while City have drawn a blank only once on the road. Both teams to score at 1.50 looks huge.
