Eintracht Frankfurt v Borussia Dortmund
Dortmund have made it through to the final of the DFB Pokal for the fourth season in a row but they haven’t had any success in that time, going down to Bayern twice and also to Wolfsburg in 2014/15. Frankfurt, meanwhile, are competing in their first final since 2005/06 when they also went down to Bayern, though their form heading into this final has to be a concern.
Frankfurt were all the way up in 3rd after 19 games of the Bundesliga season, but 10 defeats in their final 14 matches, during which time they won only once, saw them drop down to 11th. The goals dried up as they failed to score in nine of these 14 games, whilst they also conceded at least twice in 10, which certainly isn’t a good combination. What’s more, they’ve had a fairly soft run in this competition, playing 2.Bundesliga clubs in the 3rd Round and quarter-finals before edging out a struggling Monchengladbach side in the semis on penalties.
Dortmund, conversely, have improved as the season has gone on, winning nine of their last 14 in the league and knocking out Bayern in the semi-final of this competition. As a result, we expect it to be fourth time lucky for BVB here and since they’ve scored in the first half in five of their last six matches in all competitions, we expect them to put this one to bed early. We’re backing Dortmund/Dortmund Half Time/Full Time.
