Barca have bounced back from their disappointing 2-1 defeat at Deportivo with comfy wins in their last two, though they remain two points behind Real, despite having played a game more. Sevilla, meanwhile, have stumbled in recent weeks as their bore draw at home to strugglers Gijon was their third stalemate in four winless games and so they’ve dropped down to 4th, now trailing Atletico by virtue of their head to head results.
Barcelona have won their last seven at home, scoring 29 goals in the process, though none of these have been against top-six sides and they’ve been held to 1-1 draws to the only two visits from such opposition this term, against Real and Atletico. They’ve kept only one clean sheet in their last four at home and that will certainly give Sevilla some encouragement.
Having failed to win on their travels last term, Sevilla have improved significantly in that regard under Sampaoli, winning five of their last eight on the road. They managed a draw at Villarreal in their opening away game of the season and thumped Real Sociedad 4-0 in January, but they were beaten 3-1 at Atletico in their last road match whilst they’ve lost four of five games against top-four sides since the start of last season. They’ve also lost this fixture in each of the last four seasons, but again they managed to score in each of these defeats. As a result we’re backing Barca to win and both teams to score.
