Statement

It has been an extraordinary year and a half for The Set Pieces. With your help, we’ve grown from a little-known curiosity in the corner of the internet into a thriving football site with thousands of visitors every day. Our commitment to intelligent, if not always serious, football writing has been vindicated. We even won an award. But we’re not going to stop there.

Iain Macintosh, our inaugural editor, is moving upstairs to become non-executive director, and will continue to work behind the scenes. We’re delighted to announce that from April 11, Matthew Stanger will be the new editor of The Set Pieces.

You’ll know Matt from his work with Football365 and Sky Sports. You’ll know that that he’s an accomplished writer and a shrewd editor. You may also know that he was a principal reason for the success of JOE.co.uk in 2015. Matt will have full creative control of the site and with him at the helm, the future of The Set Pieces is bright indeed.

These are exciting times and we’re delighted that you’ll be here to share them with us.

STATEMENTS

IAIN MACINTOSH, NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: “It has been an honour to guide The Set Pieces through its first year, but it’s time for the website to step up. We need an editor who knows the internet and who brings more to the party than overwrought similes and an encyclopaedic knowledge of football management games. We need Matt Stanger.

MATT STANGER, EDITOR: “I’m very excited to join the team at The Set Pieces and build on the brilliant work Iain has done over the past 12 months. As a follower of The Set Pieces since its inception, I share the audience’s passion for quality football writing and look forward to bringing more original stories and ideas to the site in my role as editor.”

TOBY MASON, BACKER: “Who’s Iain?”
