In a crazy game at the Liberty Stadium, Swansea condemned Crystal Palace to their sixth straight defeat and has left some people questioning Alan Pardew’s position at Selhurst Park. Southampton, meanwhile, got back to winning ways with victories over Everton and then Arsenal in the EFL Cup, and given Palace’s form of late it’s unsurprising to see them as favourites. However, they’ve won just one of their six away league matches this term and lost to Hull last time, so at 2.25 we’ll refrain from backing them.
Instead we’ll look towards the goals market. The Eagles’ last five matches have averaged five goals per game and eight of their last 10 have had at least three strikes. They’ve been a shambles at the back, still without a clean sheet this term in a run stretching 18 games, but only the top four have scored more this season.
The Saints aren’t generally involved in too many high-scorers, but they’re a little more vulnerable on the road. It’s now just two clean sheets in the their last 12 away, seven of which saw at least three goals, and with seven of Palace’s last eight home matches against top-half sides seeing three or more strikes we’ll back that trend to continue.
